The Value of Telling Our Stories

There is a new Creative Writing Workshop happening for four weeks starting from 3 May at Thurgoona Community Centre.

One participant, Diane Martin, has joined the workshop so she can find a way to write about the precious time she spent as a child listening to her Dad share a bed-time story that he made up each night.
Due to his ailing health, Diane’s Dad had the habit of going to bed early and he turned this into a special time. All of his five children would climb into bed with him each evening, excited to hear the next episode of a continuing story he would tell them.
This became a time of incredible joy and bonding, and it also gave Diane’s mum some peace and quiet time in the kitchen so she could regain a sense of order and uncompromised cleanliness. Just how she liked it.

Dad’s Storytime lasted for years

“Storytime with Dad lasted for about an hour, with us all bundled in bed together, and this nightly ritual went on for years,” Diane explained to the group.
“Now I really want to record those wonderful memories so I can pass them on to my family. These days young people just don’t seem to have the time to sit and listen to our stories, but one day they will, and I want to preserve those precious stories so they can know them too and discover the magic of my Dad.

It’s not too late to join the Creative Writing Workshop at TCC and remember the value and fun in telling our stories and awaken your imagination in this inspiring group.

The four-week course will happen each Wednesday morning and begin on May 3rd, from 10.30 to 12.00pm at Thurgoona Community Centre. The full cost is $100.

As an introductory offer, Jennifer will provide to each participant one of her journals with a hand painted cover and matching carry tote.
