Border S.O.N.I.C. Choir

This choir is for people with speech, language, voice or cognitive difficulties as a result of stroke and other neurological impairment.
SONIC stand for: Stroke and Other Neurological Impairments Choir.

Every Tuesday afternoon at 2pm, choir members sing for an hour in the Thurgoona Community Hall. Choir leaders Libby Clark and Marion Vile are speech pathologists with a love of community singing. We enjoy vocal warm-ups and then sing well-known and uplifting songs. Afternoon tea together from 3 to 3.30pm is also an important part of the session! Seeing people sharing experiences, as well as songs, is very heart-warming.

We are happily supported by some fabulous volunteers who help set up the space, prepare afternoon tea, and support choir members during the session. We all leave with a smile on our faces – having enjoyed a positive experience, good singing and great company.
We thank Albury Wodonga Health for auspicing Border SONIC, and we are appreciative of two community development grants from Albury and Wodonga Councils that helped us get established.

Recent performances have been at the Parkinson’s Support Group, and the conference of final year speech pathology students at Charles Sturt University and singing carols at Thurgoona Shopping Plaza.

Border SONIC welcomes anyone with a communication difficulty due to stroke or other neurological impairment – as well as volunteers.
