Grade Four Designing

Indi Ford says that her own design label will be “Made by Indi 4 Indi.”

Indi has spent two terms at the Creative Sewing Tweens program at Thurgoona Community Centre. She is a very active and vibrant grade 4 student from Lavington Public School.
During class she had the following comments to make about the course.
“I’ve made pants, skirts, bags and scrunchies. I like the pants I’m making now – they’re the best!”

How did you choose the fabric you used?
“Mum gave me a 5-minute timer because we had to go somewhere else. It took me 6 minutes of running around looking for something that wasn’t cupcakes or dogs. Last time I had dogs on my pants but this time I evened it up with cats. I love cats, I’ve had one since preschool – her name is ‘Mima’ because she meows a lot. I picked her from the pound, I said to the kitchens, “Meow if you love me,” and she’s the only one who did.”

Have you found it difficult to learn sewing? “Not really. Krystal and Sanita are really great teachers.”

What makes them so good? “They make it easy to learn and they encourage you. They show me instead of just talking to me and they encourage me to keep on going.
I’ve been taught in a really good way. The fabric I used has become something instead of a ‘hot-mess’.

I had some basic ideas of how to sew and used my Nan’s sewing machine. I took some fabric and decided to make a bag – that was a ‘hot-mess‘ and I gave it to my brother. He was only about 3 so I’m not sure what he did with it.”

Indi’s mum Amber is thrilled with the classes. She emailed, “She’s very inspired by Krystal and has made some good friends in the group.”

Creative Sewing Tweens Holidays Programs runs each holiday at the Thurgoona Community Centre from 10.00 am to 3.00pm. The cost is $20.
